Hannah Yi

This is a series of illustrations depicting the scene of Felix Salten's 1923 novel, "Bambi, a Life in the Woods", where Bambi loses his mother. The forest atmosphere and precarious balance of survival in nature is something I remember very vividly from reading this book as a child.

 

When illustrating this sequence, I envisioned a vaguely woeful and resigned expression in his mother's eyes, followed by a breathless chase.
